New babies, Chinese food and free vacuum cleaners

I realize that my last several posts have all been somber, so I'm going to make an intentional effort to keep the tone of this update a little on the lighthearted side. It won't be hard, I'm in a pretty decent mood today.

My sister had her second baby in the wee hours this morning. I don't recall the weight and size, but he was a healthy boy and they named him Aiden. That puts my nephew total up to five now, with her other son (Hans) and my older brother's three sons (Ethan, Cole and Reed). It's good to know the genes will live on. I can now get myself snipped in peace.

Seriously, though, congratulations Mary. I'm glad you're both doing well.

Last night Jessi and I treated ourselves to dinner at House of Cheung. I know I go on about this place all the time, but honestly - if you're in the mood for Chinese food in Indianapolis there isn't a better place in town. Add their tremendous service to their fantastic food and you can't lose. If you don't go crazy, two people can eat there for under $20 pretty easily, even after tipping your server (who will probably be the owner's wife) generously for her amazing service and pleasant personality. Seriously, go eat there.

After dinner we visited Sakura Mart for pocky and these bizarre eyebrow razors for Jess. They kind of freak me out.

I'm excited because the weekend is almost here (just...three...more...hours) and the next episode of Battlestar Galactica is on tonight. I know it's idiotic to be so taken with a television show, but it really is quite spectacular. It's filled the void in my soul that has been there since Deep Space Nine went off the air. And the new Starbuck is hot.

When not busy working, my brain has pretty solidly gone into overdrive mode planning for our upcoming LAN party. It's still a month away (maybe five weeks if we decide to postpone it for GenCon), but I've already started salivating at the thought of forty hours of caffeine, sleep deprivation and merciless electronic violence. I can't wait!

We got a free vacuum cleaner. It belonged to our friend Gilly, who gave it to Jessi because it was broken. Jess, being quite handy with a tool (shaddup), fixed it and now it works like a champ. That saved us a couple of hundred dollars. We'll have to get her something nice for Christmas :)

Erm...what else is new? Speaking of nephews, Hans (my sister's oldest) is starting to warm up to me. It seems that kids don't really care for me until they get around two years old, then I'm fun all of the sudden. It was the same with my brothers two kids and my god-daughter Alyssa.

I kind of like kids. Not babies, but little kids. They start to get interesting right about the age that they get rebellious. When their little wills are strong enough to push back a little, that's when it gets fun. I'm sure parents everywhere disagree.

Well, that's enough for one Friday. I'll be back on Monday with depressing news and a rant or two about current events, I promise.
