It lives!

Rumors of my demise at the hands of my ruthless Republican Overlords (all hail Mitch) have been greatly exaggerated. For the moment, at least, I'm safe and sound in my beaurocratic saftey blanket. That may change in February, but for the time being everything is kosher - they've even moved us back to proper cubicles. I am once again a denizen of the venerable Cubicle Farm™.

Work has been completely insane lately. The past few weeks have been spent preparing for, executing and cleaning up after our much-feared Groupwise to Exchange migration. As I mentioned previously, the actual migration was completed last month, but much of the last couple of weeks has been spent putting ou the myriad of fires that such a poorly-planned and poorly-managed (not by DWD's staff, in either case) project. The persistant stress and unpleasant working environment that resulted from said clean up has left me pretty well exhausted and has stalled my enthusiasm for completely the proper set up of our new apartment, despite being moved in for close to two months now. With most of the issues behind us, a proper desk to work from and some (relatively) calmer times ahead at work, I'm hopeful that my energy for getting this organized at home will be restored.

Things at home have been great, except for a mystery illness that Jessi's currently battling. She's seen her doctor, had several different medications and now has appointments with some specialists. I'm sure it's nothing serious, but it does me harm to see her so uncomfortable. The best I can do is try and take care of her and hope she gets better soon.

Aside from that, though, living with Jessi is everything I hoped it would be. Coming from close to ten years of convincing myself that I would be single forever, looking across the dinner table to see her smiling at me and knowing that I'm going to go to sleep and wake up with her next to me is a boost to my spirits unlike anything I've ever encountered.

In addition to our regular D&D game (homepage), several of us are now playing in sessions of Troll Lord Games' Castles & Crusades fantasy RPG (campaign homepage). It's kind of a "D&D Lite" game, which makes for quick gameplay and a fun way to geek out with a few friends without stumbling over mechanics and whatnot (which I don't mind for our larger D&D campaign).

With everything that's been going on at home and at work, I've not had a lot of time to reflect on current events and the like. Maybe once things have calmed down some I can go back to ranting about the declining health of the American Republic ;)

I'm also not going to talk about the Apple-Intel thing. For one thing, I'm neither a CPU expert or a Macintosh user, so I'd pretty much be talking out of my nether regions. Sure, I've got my opinions on the matter, but you're going to find much more professional and informed analysis elsewhere on the web (especially over at Ars' quasi-new Infinite Loop Mac news journal).

In any case, I should be back to posting more regularly now. Not that anyone reads it, but this pile exists for my own catharsis, so hopefully I can find time to plunk something down here more than once or twice a month.
