The Saga of the Crosswalk Concluded!
After months of toil and anxiety, we were finally given our new job classifications and adjusted salaries today. Suffice to say that most of us are underwhelmed. Let me put it in very simple terms.
I was expecting this kind of upgrade:
    >>
What I got was:
    >>
So...after waiting for months and months, I get corned beef. Don't get me wrong, I love corned beef. I'd much rather have that than the bologna I was having before. But I'd rather have the steak that I was expecting.
It boils down to a matter of semantics. The "LAN Administrator" positions make significantly less than the "System Administrator" positions. Why this is, no one knows. Why they're even two separate classifications is a bigger mystery than that, even. In any case, my supervisor pulled hard to get us all put into System Administrator positions. Everyone except for myself and a poor woman who's been here thirty years did. The two of us got dumped into LAN Administrator classifications, which means between $5,000 and $10,000 less a year. Woohoo!
This was not the way I wanted to top of a long weekend of being ill (stupid flu), but I'm relieved that it's finally over. My only real course of action now is to review the job description for my new classification and either appeal for a transfer into the System Administrator classification or refuse to perform any task outside the scope of my LAN Administrator classification. I hate petty crap like that, but it may be down to that at this point.
