It's a birthday kind of week...
Man, what is it with January birthdays? It seems to be a busy month, from Jessi and her sister to several folks over on the OpenForum. In any case, a very happy birthday to everyone!
Particularly of interest, naturally, is Jessi's 28th birthday - which happens to be tomorrow. We had her party over the weekend, which was a lot of fun (photos from both that party and her sister's 30th birthday the weekend before can be seen in the gallery). Her and Eric are going out for Indian food tomorrow night. Her gift, in the form of this sleek piece o' PCB, will not be arriving in time for her birthday (or, sadly, for our upcoming LAN party). However, it will deliver a much-needed boost to her gaming rig - an otherwise respectable AXP3000/1GB box (her current GF4Ti4200 is no slouch, but it's getting long in the tooth). She'll finally be able to play CoD2 in DX9 mode, which I know will make her happy. With its eye candy turned on, it's a sight to behold.
Speaking of CoD2, I'm quite psyched about the aforementioned LAN party. It's not going to be anything special, in fact it will be quite small even by our standards. Still, even our small LAN parties usually go for the whole weekend, so I'm really looking forward to locking myself into the house for 40+ hours of fragging. High on our list will be CoD2, of course. Most of the people coming have enough machine to run it (with a lot of settings turned down in most cases, though). However, the lack of custom maps currently available for CoD2 ensure that we'll probably soon fall back on our old favorites - the triad of fragging goodness that is composed of Call of Duty: United Offensive, Far Cry and Unreal Tournament 2004. Since several of us are old RTS fans, it's likely that a midnight game of Age of Mythology or, depending on how many of us have purchased them, Age of Empires III and Civilization IV.
We're gearing up for consolidation at work. My last couple of weeks have been spent generating massive lists of network resources - networked printers, ZENworks application objects, workstations, etc. It's kind of dull, but it keeps me busy and we're working with a couple of consultants we all know and like, so that helps. Despite some disturbing rumors, I'm still mostly confident that I'll end up with a position of some sort over at IOT when all's said and done.
I know that bits and pieces about what I'm up to at the moment are rather boring, but I'm afraid that I don't have the energy currently to discuss some of the current events that I'd like to. Perhaps I'll try and tackle those tomorrow after I've had some more sleep.
Have a good day everyone.
